Hotel Jagdhaus Wiese 0.00 sqm

There is a place in the Jagdhaus Wiese that I particularly like to retreat to. And not only does it have a long tradition in our hotel, it also got a new place in winter 2022/23: our in-house library. Between old treasures and modern novels, exciting non-fiction books and lovingly designed children's literature, it's not difficult for me to forget time. The many books have a great attraction for me. Most of our inventory comes from donations from guests, friends and neighbors. Over time, a colorful mix of different genres and styles has accumulated, including some hidden treasures. For many of our regular guests, the book collection is an integral part of the hotel inventory.
The hotel's first library was given to Franz Wiese and his wife Theresia by a group of regular guests on the occasion of their wedding in 1909. They were of the opinion that a home library would be good for the Wiese house. The list of books that was given as a gift is still in the hotel archives today. The tradition was then taken up by Bernd Wiese-Gerlach, who set up a new library in 1994, looked after it for over two decades and collected the numerous book donations from our guests. Since 2006 I have been taking care of the equipment and basic organization of the library.
When I pick up a book myself, depending on my mood and time, I like to read crime novels, biographies, but also contemporary German-speaking writers like Monika Maron or Eva Menasse. As holiday reading, I would like to recommend the humorous, ironic and at the same time profound novels by Fruttero & Lucentini. I also recently enjoyed reading Christa Wolf's "One Day in the Year, 1960-2000", an impressive autobiographical piece of contemporary history that you can also find in our library - when you're not out and about.
